Jonathan Pitts-Wiley, a graduate of Yale University, became Mixed Magic Theatre’s artistic director in April 2010 and has spear headed many of the company’s productions as a director, writer, actor and dramaturge. Some of those production credits include – August Wilson’s Fences, The Spirit Warrior’s Dream, The Baghdad Tale of Romeo and Juliet, Moby-Dick: Then & Now and Misery’s Fiend: Frankenstein by Ricardo Pitts-Wiley; The Tempest, Art of Attack, King Lear, Great Holiday Traditions , and Dutchman, which was awarded top 10 show of 2017.

Jonathan wrote and directed the critically-acclaimed When Mahalia Sings, a play dealing with the life and times of gospel great Mahalia Jackson. He also conceived and directed Shakespeare in the Spirit, Legends in the Mist and co- wrote and directed Wayfound: Music and Mothers of the Movement. Jonathan is a talented photographer who loves using his gift to tell stories and document History. He is the cofounder of the acclaimed Vanta Guild, a creative collective that features the work of Black photographers who tell stories of the African Diaspora.
