Journey to Myself is the first chapter of The Sibo Cycle, an original musical by Ricardo Pitts-Wiley that blends African mythology, biblical allegory, music, dance, and storytelling into an unforgettable theatrical experience.
Guided by Sibo the Witness, audiences journey to the dawn of creation where the forces of light and shadow shape the destiny of humanity. When Efri-Natas, the embodiment of darkness and division, declares war on love, unity, and the human spirit, Rahson and Mama Do — the first parents of Africa — must confront unimaginable trials that will echo across generations.
Filled with powerful original music, breathtaking movement, and striking visual storytelling, Journey to Myself explores friendship, sacrifice, identity, and the enduring search for freedom. More than a retelling of creation, it is an epic story about hope, resilience, and the unbreakable bonds that connect us to our ancestors, our communities, and ultimately ourselves.
"An epic story about hope, resilience, and the unbreakable bonds that connect us."
Seven souls, one story.
Sibo the Witness
The immortal witness to creation and the keeper of humanity's memories. He guides the audience through the story, preserving the truth of the past while reminding us that every generation builds upon those who came before.
The Mambo Dios
Three spiritual beings who embody Time, Space, and Energy. They watch over humanity, offering wisdom, guidance, and hope while allowing each person the freedom to choose their own path.
Rahson
A courageous leader whose love for his family and people knows no limits. When evil threatens everything he holds dear, he willingly journeys into Hell itself, becoming a symbol of sacrifice, resilience, and the enduring power of hope.
Mama Do
The heart of her people. Through compassion, strength, music, and unwavering faith, she nurtures generations while standing as a powerful symbol of love, community, and the unbreakable spirit of Africa.
Efri-Natas
Born from God's shadow, Efri-Natas embodies jealousy, loneliness, and corruption. Seeking to divide humanity from one another, he wages an eternal war against love, unity, and hope through temptation, fear, and suffering.
Satan
The loyal yet ambitious first son of Efri-Natas. Clever and manipulative, he delights in exploiting human weakness while quietly pursuing power beyond even his father's ambitions.
Pyrus-Malas / Gyta
Created as the second son of Efri-Natas, Pyrus-Malas discovers compassion through Rahson and Mama Do's family. Punished and transformed into the loyal dog Gyta, he becomes a powerful symbol of friendship, redemption, and unconditional loyalty.
